The MarketVector™-GammaRoad U.S. Equity Strategy Index (MVGMMA) employs a rules-based, adaptive process to allocate between U.S. equity exposure and Treasury Bills exposure based upon its fundamental, behavioral, and trend-based measures for U.S. equity market risk.

August delivered new all-time highs as the S&P 500 Total Return Index returned +2.72% and brought its year-to-date return to +13.14%. The MarketVector™-GammaRoad U.S. Equity Strategy Index (Bloomberg: MVGMMA Index) maintained its positioning throughout the month and returned +1.91% in August, which raised its year-to-date return to +5.74%.

Last month we examined how U.S. equities have now outperformed cash by a historic margin over the last 20 years. We concluded by noting that “when the market has performed this well for a 20-year stretch, it is easiest to discount the merits of a risk-managed approach. This is precisely why this is the best time to incorporate a strategy that can avoid the worst market environments.”

We examine a simplified real-life scenario to appreciate the gravity of this observation in our latest monthly update here.
